Edit
- 532 — Nika riots in Constantinople; the cathedral was destroyed. They were put down a week later by Belisarius and Mundus; up to 30,000 people were killed in the Hippodrome.
- Hagia Sophia, Constantinople, rebuilt (532–537)
- Under the leadership of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, general Belisarius fought many campaigns defeating, among others, the Vandals in North Africa, bringing their kingdom to an end.
- During the climate changes of 535–536, the sun reportedly became very dim and the weather was extraordinarily cold. This may have been caused by a huge volcanic eruption (possibly Krakatoa).
