ABLE WILKERSON- Born, c1755, probably in North Carolina. Died just before 1850 probably in Tallapoosa County Alabama where there is at least one land record with his name listed on it. Able is first found on the 1805 tax list in Warren County GA. John and Hammon were also in that County at about the same time. In 1815 Able is found on the Putnam County GA, Tax Digest along with Archibald M., Daniel, Duncan, Hammond, Jeptha, William and Zarah. By 1818 Able is in Jasper County with Hammon, Thomas, Jeptha, Ruben, etc. On an 1824 land record Able Wilkerson is the only Wilkerson listed in Troup County GA. His lot was # 211 of the 5th Land district. He probably located to this property shortly after 1825. Soon after his arrival in Troup County, Archibald and Harrison S. arrived. (Archibald Wilkerson came to Troup County by way of Monroe County, GA and is from a Scottish line that migrated to the Fayetteville area in approximately 1774. He died in late 1828 or prior to March of 1829, according to Troup County court records). By the 1830 census there was an Aaron WILKES, Henry L. WILKERSON, Edward WILKERSON, Able WILKERSON and Harrison S. WILKERSON in Troup County. Although no records have been found to prove Able's family and his wife/wife's name remains unknown. Several researchers have puzzled his family together by name association on U.S. census and marriage records. Just before his death most of his children relocated to Tallapoosa County Alabama.
