BiographyAdeline Alma Carter was born 19 April 1885 in Broke, New South Wales, Australia to George James Carter (1839-1918) and Catherine Wapoles (1840-1908) and died 9 January 1942 in "Mackerston", Mount Thorley, New South Wales, Australia of heart failure. She married Frank Griffiths Thorley (1875-1961) 5 November 1902 in All Saints, Singleton, New South Wales, Australia. Ancestors are from Australia, the United Kingdom.

The death occurred on Friday at her residence, "Mackersten," Mount Thorley, of Mrs Adeline Alma Thorley, wife of Mr Frank Thorley, and mother of Misses Doris and Melba Thorley, aged 56 years. Deceased was bom at Broke, being a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Geo. Carter, and had lived at Mount Thorley since her marriage. Brothers of the deceased are Messrs Geo. Carter (Singleton), Thomas Carter (Broke), J. R. Carter (ex-Superintendent of Police, Sydney), and A. Carter (ex-Sergeant of Police, Sydney); while Mrs Bert Milligan (Newcastle) is a sister. The late Mrs Thorley had been in ill-health for two years, and the late extreme heat hastened her death. The deepest sympathy is extended to the family and relatives. The funeral, which was conducted by Messrs H. Roberts and Sons, took place on Sunday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Church of England cemetery at Mount Thorley. The Rector of All Saints' Church, Singleton, Rev. W. Holmes, officiated at the last sad rites.
