Akatarawa Cemetery, in Upper Hutt City, New Zealand, will soon have an online surname-searchable index that includes GPS-derived positions of its nearly 5,000 plots and plaque images, in addition to the more traditional burial information. A council spokesperson was quoted on Radio New Zealand National in September 2008 as saying they hoped to have the full service running by November. This will probably be a first for New Zealand but is not a world first.
