Anna Jacoba Brussé was born on 24 November 1812 in Haarlem. Her parents were Jacobus Brussé, a mason and hodman and Anna Lasschuit. Anna's paternal grandfather Jacobus Brussé (c1768-1813), a potato seller, died when she was a few months old. Her grandmother, Adriana Honing (1757-1844) remarried in 1827 to Jan van Zitteren (1754-1832). Anna's maternal grandparents were Jan Lasschuit (-1799) and Sara Armijs (1763-1820).
Anna had one younger sister, Paulina (1816-1848). Their mother died on 12 December 1816 aged just twenty-nine. This left their father a widower with two young daughters at the age of twenty-two.
Jacobus remarried on 1 December 1819 to Carolina van Schuik (c1792-1854). They had seven children: Adriana (1820-1828), Geertruida (1821-1877), Carolina (1824-1871), Jacobus (1827-1910), twins Johannes (1829-1829) and Antonius (1829-1829), and Adriana (1832-1839).
Carolina died on 28 January 1854 aged 61; Jacobus died on 14 June 1860 aged 65.
Anna married Joannes van den Eijkhof (1808-1867), a labourer on 5 November 1834 in Haarlem. His parents were Hendrik van den Eijkhof and Helena Brouwer. Anna and Joannes were married for thirty-two years and had nine children, including four that died in infancy.
Anna was widowed when Joannes died on 30 June 1867 aged 58. She lived for over twenty more years. Anna passed away on 16 December 1888, three weeks after her 76th birthday. It was ten days after her grand-daugher who was named after her, Anna Jacoba Reemer had died aged only fifteen. She was survived by one daughter, two sons and several grandchildren.
