Commentary:	Beckwith conducted interviews with many local residents around 1880, and included information they provided him on their life and family history. Many of those he intereviewed were the children of the pioneer families who came to the area in the early 1820's. He frequently identifies the parents of these children, tells when they came to the area, and provides details about their wives and their parents. While not intended to be genealogy, his biographies represent primary source information, since those interviewed are speaking of things that they would know from their own direct experience.
