BiographyBrilliana Conway was born 1598 to Edward Conway, 1st Viscount Conway (1564-1630) and Dorothy Tracy (1563-1612) and died October 1643 of pneumonia. She married Robert Harley (1579-1656) 22 July 1623 . Notable ancestors include Henry II of England (1133-1189), William I of England (1027-1087), Charlemagne (747-814), Hugh Capet (c940-996), Rurik (c832-879), Alfred the Great (849-899). Ancestors are from the United Kingdom, France, England, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Ireland, Hungary, Belarus, Italy, Turkey.
She became the third wife of Sir Robert Harley of Brampton Bryan Castle in March 1624. They had seven children living at the time of her death, and many of her later letters were written to her eldest son Edward (Ned). When the wars began, Brilliana was left in charge of the estates by her husband and, as parliamentarians in a largely royalist county, the Harleys were the object of much hostile attention. The siege of Brampton Bryan began on July 25 1643, and was lifted early in October 1643, but Brilliana died shortly after of a cold (she wrote her last letter on October 9); the castle was surrendered the following year.
(Medical):Brilliana had been ill for several years. The Siege of Wigmore Castle and Brampton Bryan sapped the last of her strength.
