[edit] Too much intro?

There is now a whole screenful of (mostly basically irrelevant) material displayed before the essential components of the category (the subcategories and articles). It has aroused the ire of one earnest newcomer, and I have a lot of sympathy for his view.

A good place for most of that interesting collection of informative boxes could be a page that tells readers of the various options for finding material on this site and contributing your own; linked to, of course, by a "see also" here.

I simplified it by improving the template and moving information to the Help:Surname page. -AMK152(talkcontribs) 14:31, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Definite improvement. Subcategories are visible without scrolling. Thanks, pal! Robin Patterson 06:29, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bot was copying these

Bot was copying these to new categories. So the information on them would all be preserved, ready for eventual transfer to articles. See Forum:Surnames. So I can't understand the "while the information on the old categories is being transferred to their article page". What went wrong with the agreed process? It's a work-in-progress. This is the manual part. -AMK152(talkcontribs) 04:21, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Now I've worked it out, I think. In your "status" list on Forum:Surnames you didn't mention step 1 - the copying of every OldCat to a corresponding NewCat. In fact, you have varied the agreed step 1 so that each NewCat is not a copy but gets just the template; right? I have noted the variation on the status list and added some guidance here.
