Daniel Doty was born circa 1761 to John Doty (c1725-bef1803) and Sarah Clark (?-?) and died 8 May 1848 Middletown, Butler County, Ohio, USA of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Potter (c1767-1789) 20 December 1787 in New Providence, New Jersey. He married Elizabeth Crane (1771-aft1847) 1 May 1794 .

From September 10 through October 23, 1790, Daniel Doty traveled from New Jersey to Columbia, Ohio, where he joined the militia. In 1791 he escorted Presyterian preacher James Kemper from Danville, Kentucky, to Columbia. In 1792 he traveled back to New Jersey via the the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and by sea from New Orleans to New York City. In the spring of 1796 he moved with his wife and children to the bank of the Great Miami River about a mile below present day Middleton in Butler County, Ohio, where he built a log cabin on land he had previously purchased. He was the first collector of taxes in his region.[1] In 1805 he was the resident owner of 2955 acres in Lemon Township, Butler County, Ohio.[2]
