Daniel was married to Bertha Herrington 19th Sept 1900, he is recorded on 1903 Electoral Roll as married and whose occupation was a Labourer at Bongadilly. Sometime during 1904 Daniel was charged with having stolen sheep in his possession and spent six months in Goulburn goal, Daniel protested his innocence, saying he bought the sheep from a drover. (see newspaper clipping in documents), He then moved his family down to the Wollongong area to live at 11 Broker St Russell Vale. Daniel worked as a Coal Miner at South Bulli. Also he worked at no 1 Illawarra Brickyards at Woonona. The family moved to and Leased land in North Wollongong and produced vegetables to sell locally and Sydney. He also had cattle on this land which was situated between the Mount Pleasant Rail Line and Porter St Nth Wollongong. After living there ten years Daniel and family moved again to 11 Broker St Russell Vale where he purchased 50 acres in Corrimal, the land was between Lyndon St and Coxs Lane and began mining the quarry for blue metal which was purchased by North Illawarra Council for the roads in the northern districts and raising cattle. Working from early morning until late at night coming home through South Bulli Mine paddocks with a kerosene lantern. Daniel was a hard working man.
