  • AFTER LONG ILLNESS - Mount Union, Oct 29-Banner G. Smith, a much respected citizen of Mount Union for the past thirty-one years, died at the home of his son, Raymond H. Smith on Thursday evening. Oct 27, after an illness of eight years, being confined to the home for the past eleven months. Mr. Smith was born at Gapsville, Pa, Dec 21, 1854, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Smith. He was united in marriage with Sarah Catherine Showalter, who died on Sept 17, 1921. He was affilated with the Methodist church. Surviving are the following sons and daughter: William G. Smith, Raymond H. Smith and Mrs. Arthur Shope, all of this city. One brother, John D. Smith of Blandburg, also survives. Funeral services will be conducted from the home of the son, 136 East Shirley street, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be in charge of Rev. Dr. R. Skyles Oyler, pastor of the First Methodist church. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery. (Altoona Mirror 1932)
