One or more children by the name of Denton Young II was listed in the household of Denton II's parents Denton Young and Mary McKenzie in the 1820 census of Green Township, Harrison County, Ohio.
Child by Elizabeth DewaltEdit
In 1832, Denton had a child with Elizabeth Dewalt (c1800-aft1838). It is uncertain whether Denton and Elizabeth were married, as a marriage record has not yet been located. The child was Denton Young III (1832-?), who later married Nancy A. Carr. It is uncertain where Denton III resided in the 1840 census, but in 1850, he appears in the household of Denton II's brother McKenzie Young (c1799-aft1860). By 1860, Denton III is married and living in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Interestingly, an older woman by the name of Mary Mastin is boarding with the family. (Elizabeth Dewalt eventually married a James Mastin in 1838.)
Marriage to Malinda BakerEdit
In 1836, a Denton Young married Malinda Baker (c1813-aft1820) in Harrison County, Ohio.
Interestingly, the Denton who married Malinda Baker fathered another child by the name of Denton with Malinda, as illustrated in the 1850 census of Green Township, Harrison County, Ohio:
- Denton Young, 36
- Malinda (Baker) Young, 34 (maiden name Baker)
- McKinzie Young, 14 (named for Deonton's brother)
- Otho Young, 12 (named for Malinda's father)
- John Young, 9
- Albert Young, 7
- Mahala Young, 5
- Denton Young, 3
- Mary Young, 5/12
- Mark Young, 42 (brother)
This raises the possibility that the Denton who married Malinda Baker and the Denton who fathered a child with Elizabeth Dewalt were brothers (perhaps with different middle names), rather than the same person, especially since the Denton in the 1850 census appears to have been born around 1814.
