Karl I av England, målning av Anthonis van Dyck från 1632

Charles I.

HenriettaMariaofFrance03

Henrietta Maria of France

The descendants of Charles I of England, Stuart monarch of the Kingdom of England, Kingdom of Scotland and Kingdom of Ireland, are numerous; lines of several of his children exist to this day. Charles's wife was the Bourbon princess Henrietta Maria, with whom he had nine children, five of whom reached adulthood. This article deals with the most senior figures who were descended from Charles' children. Several of Charles' descendants have been major players in the shaping of history on the islands of Great Britain and Ireland.

Charles II of EnglandEdit

All of Charles II's children were illegitimate and thus never took the throne; he had seven sons, and the lines of several of his children exist to this day. The most senior are those descended from his first son James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth.

James II of EnglandEdit

James II was deposed and three of his legitimate heirs were pretenders to the throne, before the line came to an end. James' senior male descendants after 1807 were thus illegitimate. First was the illegitimate son of Charles Edward Stuart before that line become completely defunct. Afterwards the most senior descendants were descended from James' most senior illegitimate child, James FitzJames, 1st Duke of Berwick.
