Son of William Joseph Gogerty (1893-1939) and Josette (Dolly) Jensen (1890-1940).
He had the following sibling: Dorothy Helen Gogerty (1918-1986) who was a nun that left her convent and married Salvator David Settecase (1919-1973) and adopted many children.
Donald appears in the 1930 US Census living at 4932 West Austin Avenue in Chicago. Donald enlisted as a Private in the US Army in 1942 after completing 4 years of high school. He listed his occupation as a machinist. He was wounded in action during World War II.

According to Ralph Bozorth: "He was assigned to the Headquarters Battery, 225th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion. His assignments included the defense of seaports, airports and bridges in the European Theatre. The War and his injuries had a profound effect on him and changed his life on his return home."
Donald married and had a child around 1950.
He died in 1967.
He was buried in Rock Island National Cemetery on January 11, 1967.
