Edward Josiah Garnsey was born 1874 in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia to Josiah Wake Garnsey (?-c1890) and Sarah Elizabeth Matthews (?-c1905) and died May 1949 in Rockdale, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Harriet Louisa Minnie Leer (1882-1950) 1913 in Paddington, New South Wales, Australia.
