  • Reference:U.S. Civil War Soldiers shows Elias as a private in company I, 133rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry (National Guard). This unit was first mustered in May 6, 1864, and had only a single casualty during the way, being occupied mainly in constructing various works.
  • as of 1860 Census Possibly worked on farm appearing with wrong recorded age. Possibly same person as Elias Messerly (1845)? working on farm of Adam Klinder (sp) in Liberty, Fairfield, OH, born OH.
  • as of 1870 Census age 26, Montana Territory > Missoula, occupation farm laborer, born OH.
  • as of 1880 Census, Elias born Ohio about 1844 Married to Sarah age 19, with child Alpheus. Another girl, Lucy Goller age 5 is at the house. Census records both of Elias's parents as swiss.
    • Lucy Goller: born 1875, her father indicated as from Germany, race Native American. Mother's birthplace "W.T."
  • 1887 Territorial Census Wife Sarah Elmira Houser's birthdate was ca 1863, born PA. There was also a second child, "B Messerly, female born c1885 [1]
  • 1900 Census: "Etus" Messerly, age 58 Head of Household. Washington-> Chelan County. Born OH Dec 1841 along with both parents. The property is a farm with a mortgage, Farm schedule 67.
    • Sarah E wife, born Jan 1862 born PA, along with both parents
    • Alpheus son born Nov 1877, age 22
    • Etu R daughter born Mar 1885.
