Elijah James Marks was born 1870 in Carcoar, New South Wales, Australia to William Marks (1841-1927) and Elizabeth Louise Frazer (1844-1923) and died 18 September 1941 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Maud Mary Spreadborough (1880-1965) 2 January 1899 in Queensland, Australia.


The family moved from New South Wales to Queensland in 1878. They left by bullock wagon with a number of horses and cattle, staying a while on 2 different land options with a view to making a permanent settlement. Deciding to move on to Queensland. They initially resided in Dalby for a period before moving to Charleville.

Elijah worked his father's sawmilling company in Charleville. He owned land in Adavale, Queensland.
