Elisabeth sailed from England to New Zealand in 1876 with her husband and all eleven of her children. By the end of 1886, the youngest child and the two oldest had died (at ages ranging from 5 to 27) in Dunedin. The other eight all survived to adulthood and marriage, giving her four grandchildren born before she died and 38 after. Probably the best known grandchild was Michael Forlong (1912-2000), film producer. One of the most prominent great-grandchildren is Sir Bruce Slane, a lawyer and former Privacy Commissioner.
