Elizabeth Fay Brigham was born 28 April 1767 in Southborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts to Josiah Fay (1731-1776) and Mary Bent (1737-1833) and died circa 1809 of unspecified causes. She married Uriah Brigham (1757-1820) 25 December 1790 in Bakersfield, Franklin County, Vermont.

Biography

Elizabeth was born in Southborough, one of the nine children of Josiah and Mary (Bent) Fay. Uriah Brigham was born in Marlborough and had then moved to northern Vermont to the town of Bakersfield. He returned now and then to visit his family and on one of those occasions apparently met Elizabeth. He married her on December 25, 1790, and returned with her to Bakersfield. She was 23.

Uriah died in September 1820; he was 63; Elizabeth was 53. They had nine children, for whom Orlin gives some details (page 41).

When Uriah died, Elizabeth was left a widow far away from her family and her early friends. Writing five months after his death to her mother, Elizabeth mourns Uriah's loss and discusses her family and her hopes to visit Southborough soon. That letter has survived, and is presented here with brief notes.

Elizabeth Fay and Uriah Brigham were cousins, although distant ones.
