Everett Doty enlisted in the United States Marines on August 15, 1940. He was sent for training to San Diego, California. On October 14, 1940, he shipped out aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga for Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, when it was bombed by the Japanese. He served in the Pacific during World War II until he was wounded in action, at which time he was a sergeant. He received the purple heart for his sacrifice.
