Ezra Ricketts was born 1828 in Fairfield County, Ohio, United States to Jeremiah Ricketts (1787) and Elizabeth Ricketts (1788) and died 20 September 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga (17th Ohio Volunteer Infantry ) of unspecified causes.

  • On September 19, 1861 at the age of 33, Ezra Rickets re-enlisted in the Ohio volunteer infantry and was assigned the command of Company F, Seventeenth Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Captain Rickets had already served in the 3 month 17th Ohio. The original strength of the 17th was 852 men and they trained at Camp Dennison, OH.[1] On September 20th, 1863 he was killed[2] at the [of Chickamauga] in Georgia where the Army of the Cumberland under Rosecrans was defeated with 16,000 casualties.
