- On September 19, 1861 at the age of 33, Ezra Rickets re-enlisted in the Ohio volunteer infantry and was assigned the command of Company F, Seventeenth Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Captain Rickets had already served in the 3 month 17th Ohio. The original strength of the 17th was 852 men and they trained at Camp Dennison, OH. On September 20th, 1863 he was killed at the [of Chickamauga] in Georgia where the Army of the Cumberland under Rosecrans was defeated with 16,000 casualties.
