Familypedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)edit this page
From Familypedia
Familypedia's names for places conform to those specified in the English Wikipedia without exception. For places that do not yet exist in English Wikipedia, the Wikipedia rules for geographic names must be rigorously adhered to.
Multilingual place names: Familypedia's naming convention for multilingual articles is to add the language code within parenthesis at the end of the article name. The authority on names is the corresponding wikipedia for that language. So for example, Georgia (U.S. State) is Géorgie (État) (.fr) (in french), and Georgia (Estados Unidos) (.es) (in Spanish). The authority for naming standards for the language is the corresponding naming standard guidelines for that wikipedia. If no such guidelines exist, follow the example naming patterns in use on that wikipedia.
Disputes: Familypedia is not a forum for debating the merits of alternate naming schemes. If a different name for a place is desired, the contributor is referred to the corresponding wikipedia. As soon as the name is changed on that wikipedia, then the familypedia name for that place may be updated.
