Nora A. Curlhair (1866-1952) was a housekeeper who never married. She kept a diary which was lost in 1991. (b. February 1866, Maine, Broome County, New York, 13802, USA - d. 1952, Maine, Broome County, New York, 13802, USA)

Birth[]

Nora was born in 1866 to Freeman C. Curlhair (1834-1910) a harness maker, postmaster and cigar store merchant; and Lydia A. Gaige (1837-1903).

In 1870 through at least 1880 her father was working as a harness maker but by 1900 her father was working as the postmaster for Maine. In 1903 her mother died, and in 1910 Nora was still living at home with her widowed father, but he died that year while working as a cigar dealer.

Diary[]

Her diary was archived at the Nanticoke Valley Historical Society in Maine, New York. The diary was lent out for research in 1991 and never returned.

Servant[]

In 1920 she was working as a maid in Union, Broome County, New York for Catherine Ford (1843-?) and her grandson, Orrin Parsons (1889-?). In 1930 she was working at age 62, at the home of Ida C. Miller (1856-?), a 74 year old widow, and her son at 13 Jay Steet in Binghamton, Broome County, New York.

Death[]

Nora died in 1952 and was buried with her family at the Maine Village Cemetery, Maine, New York.
