No centro, figuravam as armas do império.
English: The flag of Brazil. The meanings differ from the original flag, in which the green represented the House of Braganza -- to which Emperor D. Peter I of Brazil was member -- and the yellow the House of Habsburg -- to which Empress D. Mary Leopoldine was member.
Each star represents a Brazilian state, according to the way the constellations were set by the night of November 15th, 1889. Officially, the star above the white line represents the only one Brazilian state capital which was above the line of Equator by the time of the proclamation of the Republic: Belém do Pará.
