The late Ottoman Navy flag with a crescent and eight-pointed star was used between 1793 and 1844.
In 1844 the present-day Turkish flag with a crescent and five-pointed star, which derived from the Ottoman Navy flag of 1793-1844, was adopted as the first official Ottoman national flag, as part of the Tanzimat reforms. This flag is still used by the Republic of Turkey.
