Bill created an interesting template that creates a narrative from SMW fields. I inserted some wrapper templates to make it easier to construct these sorts of narratives. I can imagine these narrative templates going into all the myriad life event details that are available from the current Form:Person values.
This will liven up a lot of the Gedcom source material we are importing. Further, it makes our content potentially available to wider audiences. Which is a long winded way of getting at the point of this note.
- Would that be "Biography SMW (nl)" or "Biography SMW.nl" or "Biography SMW/nl" or "Levensloop"? By the way, I think that we should drop the SMW and simply do away with the old parser-based "Biography". rtol 19:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- For now, how about Template:Showfacts biography/nl. Template:Showfacts biography/es is an example in spanish that I did. Note that (.es) names of variables would be converted to (.nl). These are langugage specific strings, that if present would be used in place of the default english. EG: "death causes (.nl)". Thanks. -~ Phlox 21:24, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Actually NL language articles would have (.nl) postpended to them, like Hendrik I van Engeland (1068-1135) (.nl). Showfacts biography will work like showfacts person now does, and folks won't call the /nl module directly. As for translation of dates and placenames, that part is not done yet. I would have hoped that the SMW folks could have translated languages for us, since it is such a small string table, but what the heck. I think I can manage translating the months. Thanks. If you can take a stab at the German that would be great. I can guess but I really only know a handful of conversational phrases.-~ Phlox 07:41, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'll have a go at German, may try my hand at French if I'm feeling brave. rtol 07:57, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
