In the 1938 electoral roll for Wellington Central (Supplement No 1), he is "Harrison, Frederick Nevinson, Bank of NSW, Courtenay Pl, clk".

World War II NZ number 28890 (embarkation 1940-41, last address Eltham, NZ): Gunner with Surveyors Battalion. That gave him an affinity with nephew Robin. He recalled carrying a theodolite and other heavy gear to the top of an Egyptian Pyramid.

A 1947 directory showed "Harrison, Frdk, clk, Haywards" (north of Lower Hutt). Was that our Fred? There were several Frdk Harrison in the Auckland area.

Many positions of responsibility with Bank of New South Wales, including Thames (where Robin stayed for a day or two around 1960 and played tennis with the children).

Retired at 568 High St, Lower Hutt. Final address after downsizing: 258 Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt.

Ω Birth
  • Fred's parents and brother were living in Patea (many kilometres north-west along the coast) at the time of Fred's birth. One must presume that Wanganui (as it was then known) had the best accessible maternity facilities. The family was still in Patea in 1916 when the third child was born in Hawera, a town smaller than Wanganui but closer to Patea.
