Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou, Count of Anjou, Count of Maine, was born 24 August 1113 in Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France to Fulk I of Jerusalem (c1090-1143) and Ermengarde of Maine (-1126) and died 7 September 1151 in Château-du-Loir, France of unspecified causes. He married Matilda of Normandy (1102-1167) 17 June 1127 in Le Mans Cathedral, Le Mans, France. Notable ancestors include Charlemagne (747-814). Ancestors are from France, Belgium, Germany.

Geoffrey became Count of Anjou and Maine in 1128, when his father left France to travel to the Holy Land, where he would become King of Jerusalem. Geoffrey supported his wife's campaigns for the throne of England through campaigning in Normandy. By 1144, most of Normandy had fallen into his hands, and he was invested as Duke. In 1150, he abdicated Normandy to his eldest son, but continued to reign in Anjou and Maine until his death.
