George Cavendish, 1st Earl of Burlington was born 21 March 1754 to William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire (1720-1764) and Charlotte Elizabeth Boyle, 6th Baroness Clifford (1731-1754) and died 4 May 1834 Piccadilly Burlington House, London, Greater London, England, United Kingdom of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Compton (1760-1835) 27 February 1782 in Trinity Chapel, Compton Street, St. George Hanover Square, London, Hanover Square, Greater London, England, United Kingdom.

George Augustus Henry Cavendish, 1st Earl of Burlington (31 March 1754 – 4 May 1834), known as Lord George Cavendish before 1831, was the third son of the 4th Duke of Devonshire and the former Lady Charlotte Boyle.

His maternal grandfather was the 3rd and last Earl of Burlington of the first creation, which title had become extinct on his death in 1753. On 10 September 1831 Cavendish was created Baron Cavendish of Keighley, in the County of York, and Earl of Burlington.

He married Lady Elizabeth Compton, a daughter of the 7th Earl of Northampton, on 27 February 1782 in London. They had at least eleven children of whom six children survived to adulthood.
