Jacques was born 1828, in Wicres, Artois, France. His father was Chretien Du Bois (c1590-1655) and his mother's given name was Cornelia.

[edit] Immigration to Holland and New York

Jacques first settled in Leyden, Holland, and in 1674 he came with his wife, Pierrone Bentyn, to Kingston, New York.

[edit] Legacy

Although Jacques died just two years after arriving in New York, his children spread across the Hudson River and helped establish the towns of Fishkill and Poughkeepsie in New York. Also, Jacques is a direct paternal ancestor of W.E.B. Du Bois.
