1906, wedding of James Edward Baglin and Maud Elizabeth Baldwin

James Edward Baglin (c1874-1955) moved to London and resided as a lodger with the Baldwin family in Whitechapel. In 1906 he married Maud Elizabeth Baldwin (1885-1948) in Bethnal Green, London. Between 1906 and 1926 they had eleven children.

James, apparently a huge man, worked as a Meat Porter at one of the London Markets. However, he suffered badly from epilepsy, the story being that he was a Bare Knuckle fighter when still living in Gloucestershire and that the constant blows to the head gave him the epilepsy; as a result of this he was committed to Bexley Mental Institution where he died in 1955 at the ripe old age of 81.

One of the sons of James and Maud Baglin, Charles Edward Baglin, born 1918 first job was as a butcher in Smithfields, London. He served with the Cambridgeshire Regiment in the Second World War and following his demob, took a job driving various vehicles.

In 1947 he and his family moved to Hainault, Essex and being interested in chicken farming, Charles acquired a small piece of land close to Hainault station where he kept chickens. On Friday nights he had an egg delivery round in London; this was in the days before the introduction of egg cartons, so his wife Lilian would wrap the eggs in newspaper.

He finally bought a small holding in Collier Row, Romford, London, where he kept pigs and chickens. Charles then opened a farm shop, that eventually became a general store, which he ran for several years in conjunction with the small holding and a stall in Romford market, London. In 1972, Charles moved to a small farm in Great Leighs, Chelmsford, Essex again keeping pigs and chickens.
