He married Ada Margaret Angel (1878-1961) 21 September 1898 in Burrawang, New South Wales, Australia. Ancestors are from Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland.

Mr. James Samuel Parmenter, of Bexhill, and formerly of Lismore, who had been holidaying in the Bowral district, died in Bowral hospital yesterday. He took ill suddenly and died following an operation.
Mr. Parmenter had lived at Bexhill for a number of years. He was well known in Lismore and for many years had been caretaker at the Lismore Recreation ground. He is survived by a widow and two children, Mr. Fred Parmenter and Mrs. W. Somerville, both of Lismore. He will be buried in the Bundanoon cemetery today.
