James T. Taylor married Sarah Melvin - 23 Aug 1817 in Madison Ohio

Her father was Joseph Melvin - b.24 Jan 1764 d. 5 Nov 1817 - Glade Cem Madison Co. Ohio He married Phebe Van Vactor on 18 Aug 1785 in Berkeley Co Va. She was born 31 Dec 1766 in Raritan NJ and d.19 July 1821 - Glade Cem Madison Co Ohio. Her father was Ben Van Vactor b 1735 NJ d 1822 Greene Co Tenn, her mother is unknown.

Joe was the son of John Melvin and Elizabeth McCarty of Jefferson Co.W VA

This John Melvin livied next door to Samuel Taylor Sr. Sam Taylor Sr. had two sons Sam Jr. and John. There is a full account of Sam Jr. family of which four sons (none of which are James T's father ) moved to Madison Co., Ohio.

There is a Rachel Taylor who married Caleb Levick about 1793 in Berkeley Co. W.VA and she is buried NEXT to James T. Taylor in Hixson Cem in Parke Co. I don't know what relation she is to James but "think ? " she could his aunt maybe a dau of John. The Clarrissa Taylor you mention is the wife of Dr. Richard Taylor - they had four sons ( No James) and Richard's will is in Parke Co. Two of the sons were born in New York and other two in Indiana. James T. Taylor appears to have livied on Richard's farm, but I have NO true relationship, but Richard "could be another son of John of Jefferson Co WVa. Which would make him James' uncle.

Note that James T's oldest son is Robert --- there is a probate for a Robert Taylor in 1810 or so in Madison Co. Ohio -- it names no relation (bummer) and a James Taylor (minor) picks a gardian in 1811 -- note our James would be about 17 and still a minor.

I think but no proof that Robert could be son of John Taylor of Jefferson Co WVa

I note that in Parke Co IN a lot of the Taylor neigobors are the same families that livied in Madison Co and Jefferson Co.

Well got to go -- I have more on Melvins and pictures of tombstones and copies of wills. So lets just keep kicking this back and forth.

Later TLT
