Jesse Hunt served in France as a private in the United States army toward the end of World War I. He was a farm laborer. During the Great Depression he found work with the Works Progress Administration laying the brick streets which still surround the square in Woodstock, Illinois. He was an admirer of President Franklin Roosevelt.
