Joel Waite was born on September 9, 1754 in Whately, Massachusetts, to John, Jr. and Submit Waite. Joel married Deborah Blood on May 11, 1775. Following the death of his father in 1776, he inherited 50 acres in Whately, where he ran a hotel for many years--the source of his nickname, "Landlord." He died on July 4, 1835.
