Early Life

Johanna van den Eijkhof was born on 19 November 1840 in Haarlem. Her parents were Joannes van den Eijkhof and Anna Jacoba Brussé, who had married on 5 November 1834. Johanna's paternal grandparents were Hendrik van den Eijkhof (1768-1822), a labourer and Helena Brouwer (c1780-1866), shopkeeper. Her maternal grandparents were Jacobus Brussé (1794-1860), a mason and Anna Lasschuit (c1787-1816). When Johanna was born she also had a step-grandmother, Carolina van Schuik (c1792-1854) and a great-grandmother, Adriana Honing (1757-1844).

Johanna was the fourth if nine children. Her siblings were Johannes (1835-1835), Johannes Jacobus (1836-1877), Hendrik (1838-1839), Jacobus (1842-1859), Hendrik (1844-1909), Helena (1850-1850), Dirk (c1851-1926) and Helena (1854-1860).

Marriage

On 3 January 1866 Johanna married Cornelius Reemer (1830-1912) in Haarlem. Cornelius, born in Antwerp, Belgium, was the son of Hendrika Antoonica Rijstenborg (1808-1878). Nine days after the wedding, Johanna's grandmother Helena died aged 85.Johanna and Cornelius were married for 33 years and had eight children, including a stillborn child, three sons that died in infancy and a daugher who died aged fifteen.

Later Life

Johanna passed away on 19 November 1899 aged 59 following a painful illness. She died at her home at two in the morning after receiving the Holy Sacraments. She was survived by her husband Cornelius, three children and several grandchildren. Cornelius lived until 1 March 1912, when he died aged 81.
