John Berry was born 1792 to James Berry (1750-1836) and Mary Montgomery () and died 1839 of unspecified causes. He married Maria Hodge (1797-1870) .


John Berry operated Berry's Ferry at the location later known as Berry's Ferry, Kentucky (across the Ohio River from Illinois). He is said to have grossly overcharged a party of Cherokee who were being moved west in 1838.
