John C. Jackson was born somewhere in Pennsylvania in about 1815, of Canadian-born parents, at least one of whom was reputed to be of at least Potawotami stock, and who possibly were from the area near the Straits of Mackinac just north of Michigan. Little is known of his first 40 years, but in October, 1855, in Lake County, IL, John C. married the widow Anastacia Redmond Nolan, a native of County Wexford, Ireland, who was living in Chicago, Illinois with her first husband and their two children in 1850. Through this marriage, he became associated with members of the Yore family in Lake County, who represented three of his in-laws. (Among the children of John C. and Anastacia was John Charles Jackson, born on Christmas Day near Lake Forest, Illinois in 1859, and also their children Rose Anna, Ellen, Michael, Thomas, Margaret and Julia. Anastacia, John C. and their children moved to Benton Harbor, Berrien County, MI (where they joined other members of the Yore Family), in the mid-1870's, and then John C. became an orchardsman and fruit grower until his death in 1896. He is buried at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Joseph, MI with his wife. However, the grave marker there misstates his year of birth by some 18 years.
