John Frederick Campbell, 1st Earl Cawdor of Castlemartin, was born 8 November 1790 in United Kingdom to John Campbell, 1st Baron Cawdor (c1753-1821) and Isabella Caroline Howard (1771-1848) and died 7 November 1860 Stackpole Court, Stackpole Estate, Pembrokeshire, Wales, United Kingdom of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Thynne (1795-1866) 5 September 1816 in Grosvenor Square, Greater London, England, United Kingdom.

John Frederick Campbell, 1st Earl Cawdor was a British earl and MP.

He was born the son of John Campbell, 1st Baron Cawdor and Lady Caroline Howard and educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford, graduating BA in 1912. In 1827 he became Viscount Emlyn of Emlyn and Earl Cawdor of Castlemartin in the county of Pembroke.

In June 1812 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.[1]

He was MP for Carmarthen from 1813 to 1821 and Lord Lieutenant of Carmarthenshire from 1817 to 1860. He died on his family estate at Stackpole, Pembrokeshire.

Elizabeth's wedding was reported thus in the Perthshire Advertiser of 7 July 1842, page 4[2]:

At St George's, Hanover Square, London, on the 28th ultimo, the Earl of Desart, to Lady Elizabeth Campbell, third daughter of the Earl of Cawdor.
