John Doty was born 4 June 1709 in Piscataway Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey to Samuel Doty (1679-aft1746) and Elizabeth Hull (1679-) and died 9 November 1757 (near Delaware River) of unspecified causes. He married Poss. Breese .

In 1757 during the French and Indian War a guard of 120 effective men was mustered from county militias to defend the frontiers of the colony of New Jersey. John Doty served as a private in this guard from June until he and Otho Mahurin were killed by Indians near the Delaware River on November 9, 1757.
