John Grono was born 1767 in Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales, United Kingdom and died 4 May 1847 at "Grono Park" in Pitt Town, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Bristow (1771-1848) 20 July 1790 at St Mary's in Rotherhithe, England, United Kingdom.

Served in the Royal Navy for over ten years. Came to New South Wales with his wife and their daughters on 3 May 1799 on the Buffalo.
