Obituary

Mr. John Hardwick.

The death occurred at Kincora on Sunday morning of Mr John Hardwick, who had resided in the district for over 40 years, aged 61 years.

He had been a good deal worried of late owing to the drought, and about a week ago took to his bed. On Friday last Drs. MacFarlane and Clouston met in consultation on the case, and held out no hope for his recovery, and the deceased passed away as stated in the presence of his family, the cause of death being heart and kidney trouble. The deceased was a native of Gundaroo, his parents having settled there after having arrived from Huntinghamsire,England. Somewhere in the middle seventies he settled at Gellingroe, where he married a daughter of the late Richard Whiticker. Always a hard-working, industrious man, with the aid of a good wife, he was able to bring up and provide for a large family of sons and daughters, most of whom are settled in the district. About 16 years ago he sold out his property at Gellingoe, and settled at Kincora. The deceased is survived by his widow, five daughters (Mrs. T. Nicholls, Mrs.H. Hogan, Mrs P. Boon, Mrs. T. Boon and Mrs. J. Jamieson), and five sons (Messrs Walter, Frank, Thomas, Harry and Jack Hardwick). He also leaves a brother (William) and four sisters, as well as a number of grand children. The funeral took place at Tumblong on Monday, and a lengthy funeral cortege bore testimony of the esteem and respect in which the family are held in the district. The service at the grave side was conducted by the Rev. Williams, of Adelong.
