Biography
John Mobbs was born 11 January 1824 in Pennant Hills, New South Wales, Australia to William Mobbs (1791-1851) and Maria Grono (1800-1871) and died 2 January 1898 Carlingford, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Eyles (1824-1898) 7 November 1842 in Hunters Hill, New South Wales, Australia.

Obituary
Death. — Early on Sunday morning Mr. John Mobbs, sen., passed away after sufferings extending over more than a quarter of a century. For 27 years Mr. Mobbs had suffered from rheumatism, and the cause of his death (which came unmistakably as a happy release from affliction) was rheumatic fever. Mr. Mobbs was 74 years of age and a long time resident of the district. He leaves a line of descendants, including quite a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his widow, his only son and five daughters survive him. The latter are:— Mrs. Joseph Franks, Mrs. C. Watts, Mrs. H. Catt, Mrs. William Catt, and Mrs. McBrien. The funeral took place on Tuesday at the Carlingford cemetary, and was attended by nearly all the residents of the district. The Rev. G. McIntosh was the officiating clergyman and Mr. William Metcalfe the undertaker.
- Note that this apparently omits a daughter, Caroline Mobbs (1856-1926) (Mrs. Charles Gliddon), who is mentioned in his wife's obituary.
Note
Many sources confuse him with his cousin, John Mobbs (1826-1891), giving him some of the latter's children. Some researchers have also given his daughter Maria Mobbs (1846-1910) to his father.
