Biography

John Warby was born 1767 in Cottered, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom to John Warby (?-?) and Ann (?-?) and died 12 June 1851 in Spring Valley, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Sarah Bentley (c1780-1869) 12 September 1796 at St Johns in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.

He arrived in New South Wales on the Pitt, 14 Feb 1792 as a convict.

Picture caption, 1941: Leumeah House, near Campbelltown, was once the home of John Warby, Government Stockman. The cottage was built in 1816 and still stands solidly as a monument to early colonial craftsmanship. Warby earned distinction as an explorer, but his fame has been eclipsed by others whose names are more familiar.
