Joseph Collits was born 1 March 1808 in Castlereagh, New South Wales, Australia to Pierce Briggington Collits (1763-1848) and Mary Hardwick (1769-1841) and died 2 November 1888 in Forbes, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Mary Ann Field (1795-1865) 21 July 1845 in Castlereagh, New South Wales, Australia. He married Martha Gully (c1817-1882) 6 March 1866 in Mount Clarence, New South Wales, Australia. Ancestors are from Ireland, the United Kingdom.

Forbes Times, 2 Nov 1888.

Mr Joseph Collits, one of the oldest residents of this district, died yesterday in the Forbes Hospital. Mr Collits was at one time the owner of extensive pastoral properties in this district, and in 1861, the year the Forbes Diggings broke out, he purchased the Bogabigal Station, adjoining the rush, from Mr Rankin, paying 10,000 Pounds cash for it. He was 81 years of age at the time of his death.
