Joseph was born 8 April 1892 in New Durham, Strafford County, New Hampshire, United States to Joseph D Harding (1861-) and Ida Pearl (1855-1906) and died January 1981 of unspecified causes. He married Merle Hayes Bennett (1892-1973) 1911 .

Joseph was a mechanic at George F. Mooney & Son wood-turning mill in Farmington, NH, from 1917 or earlier through at least the 1940s. Family sources indicate Joseph was known by his middle name Harold.

  • USA Census 1900 (Strafford County, NH) - lists Joseph w/correct age 8, but the enumerator wrote 1882 as the year rather than 1892. 1910 census lists him as age 18 and was taken by the same enumerator from 1900, supporting the 1892 birthdate. 1930 Census lists him as age 38. His WW1 and WW2 draft cards have his exact birthdate on them with his signature.
