Colonel Josiah Fay was born 4 February 1731 in Westborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts to John Fay (1700-1732) and Hannah Child (1700-1788) and died 8 August 1776 Long Island, New York of Illness. He married Mary Bent (1737-1833) 22 March 1758 in Southborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

Colonel Josiah Fay died while in service on Long Island, in the Revolution, and his remains were buried in Trinity Church cemetery, New York City.

Biography

Revolutionary War Service

Colonel Fay was a Captain in Col. Ward's Regiment of Massachusetts from 23 May 1775 to 01 Dec 1775 and then a Captain in the 1st Continental Infantry Regiment from 01 Jan 1776 to his death. Some sources say he died on 12 Aug 1776 in New York City.

It appears that Colonel Fay died of illness just days before the great British invasion of Long Island on 27 Aug 1776.
