The accompanying letters were written during Dunmore's War of 1774, and collected by Lyman Draper (?-?). Draper's massive collection was given to the Wisconsin Historical Society. Reuben Gold Thwaites and Louise Phelps Kellog examined Drapers Manuscript Collection]] and extract some of the material related to Dunmore's War. Their efforts resulted in the publication of "Documentary History of Dunmore's War by the Wisconsin Historical Society, at the charge of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The accompanying letters, taken from Thwaites and Kellogg, 1905 are relevant to specific problems being looked at in the pioneer history of Southwest Virginia, and are cited in relevant articles.
