Lewis was a farmer, and operated a "jitney" between franklinton and covington. burials is the varnado cemetery, east of bethel baptist church, 1 mile east of thefranklinton-covington highway. this cemetery is on the original headright of john brumfield and his wife margaret kelly, settled, ca 1812. all around the cemetery is a tree farm today.
