Marcus Montrose Fay was born 6 June 1844 in Elkdale, Cattaraugus County, New York to Aleander Fay (1816-1903) and Electa Clement (1814-1886) and died circa 1933 Salamanca, Cattaraugus County, New York of unspecified causes. He married Kate Elizabeth Johnson (1846-1912) 27 February 868 JL in New York.
Biography
Marcus Montrose Fay was born on his parents farm in Elkdale NY. He was educated in the local public schools and worked on the family farm until he was seventeen.
Civil War Service
He enlisted (16 Jan 1864) as a bugler of Company F, Ninth Regiment, New York Cavalry, serving under Gen. Sheridan until the close of the war, being honorably discharged 17 Jun 1865. He was a great deal of active service but escaped unhurt.
On his return from the war he brought with him a fine horse, a most intelligent animal, which he kept for twenty years.
Career
Mr Fay bought a farm on Fish Hill which he cultivated for some time, then went to Des Moines Iowas, where he worked at carpentering for three years. On his return in 1872 he settled in Masfield, thence removed to Otto, remaining until 1892, when he removed to Salmanca.
He is a member of the Masonic Order and an Independent in politics.
